Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Cal.

Getting started

What is Cal.?

Cal. is a calendar app for iPhone that lets you add events by typing or speaking naturally — the same way you'd tell a friend. Instead of tapping through date pickers and dropdowns, you type something like lunch with Grace Thursday at 1pm and Cal. figures out the rest.

It also connects to your existing calendars (Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook) so everything lives in one place, and includes a built-in journal for capturing thoughts alongside your schedule.

How do I connect my existing calendars?

Open Settings (the gear icon on the day view) → Sync → turn on Calendar sync. Cal. will ask for permission to access your calendars. Once granted, tap "Calendars" to choose which ones to show. Events from those calendars appear in Cal.'s timeline alongside any events you've created directly in the app.

Will events I create in Cal. show up in Apple Calendar or Google Calendar?

Yes. When Calendar sync is enabled, any event you create in Cal. is automatically saved to a dedicated "Cal." calendar in Apple Calendar, which syncs to iCloud and therefore to Google Calendar, Outlook, and any other app connected to your iPhone's calendar system. Your events are never locked inside Cal.

How do I sync Cal. events across my iPhone and iPad?

Cal. uses iCloud Calendar to keep your events in sync across devices. To enable this:

1. Open the iPhone Settings app
2. Tap your name at the top → iCloudSaved to iCloud
3. Make sure iCloud Calendar is toggled on

Once iCloud Calendar is on, Cal. will automatically store your events in iCloud so they appear on all your signed-in devices. If iCloud Calendar was previously off, relaunch Cal. after enabling it.

The chat bar

How does the chat bar work?

The chat bar at the bottom of the day view is where you add events. Type what you want to do, and Cal. extracts the title, date, time, and other details automatically. No tapping through menus required.

Here are some examples of what you can type:

dinner at 7pm standup monday 9:30-9:45 lunch with Grace thu 20 at 12pm gym tomorrow 7am dentist next tuesday remind me 30 mins before flight to Paris friday dinner @ 19h30 demain réunion vendredi matin

Cal. understands 12h and 24h times, colon format (9:30) and European h-format (19h30), relative dates (today, tomorrow, next week), and weekday names in English, French, and Spanish.

What do the chips that appear above the chat bar mean?

After you type and hit return, a confirmation card appears showing what Cal. understood. It shows the event title, and pills for the date, time, reminder, and any conflict detected. Review it, then tap Add to confirm or Edit details to open the full editor first. If something looks wrong, you can edit the text directly in the chat bar before submitting — the text stays there until you add or clear it.

What if Cal. gets the time wrong?

For ambiguous times like dinner at 6, Cal. can't know if you mean 6am or 6pm. Use the full format — dinner at 6pm or dinner at 18:00 — to be explicit. You can also use @ as a shortcut for "at": dinner @ 6pm works too.

If the event lands in the wrong slot, just tap it to open the editor and adjust the time directly.

Can I add a reminder when creating an event?

Yes. Include a reminder phrase in your input:

dentist tuesday remind me 30 mins before call mum at 3pm remind me 1 hour before meeting 9am rappelle-moi 15 minutes avant

If you say "remind me" without specifying a time, Cal. uses your default reminder length (set in Settings → Defaults → Default reminder).

What languages does the chat bar support?

The chat bar understands English, French, and Spanish date and time expressions. You can mix languages freely — réunion thursday at 10am works, as does cena mañana a las 7pm.

Day names, relative terms (demain, mañana, hier, ayer), time keywords (midi, medianoche, soirée, tarde), and reminder phrases all work in all three languages.

What does the + button do?

Tapping the + button opens the full event editor pre-filled with today's date and your default duration. This is the form-based alternative to the chat bar — useful when you want to set all the details (repeat rule, category, notes) from the start rather than editing them afterwards.

Voice input

How does voice input work?

Tap the microphone icon in the chat bar. Cal. starts listening and displays a live transcript as you speak. When you're done, tap the stop button — the transcript stays in the chat bar so you can review or edit it. Tap the arrow to submit, or × to discard.

Voice input uses Apple's on-device speech recognition. No audio is sent to Feather Studio's servers.

Can I dictate in French or Spanish?

Yes. Go to Settings → Defaults → Voice language and choose English, French, or Spanish. Cal. will use that language for speech recognition regardless of your device's system language. The default is "Device language", which follows your iPhone's language setting.

Voice input is a Cal. Pro feature — what does that mean?

Voice input is available to Cal. Pro subscribers. The microphone button is visible to all users, but activating it requires a Pro subscription. You can upgrade from the Cal. Pro section in Settings.

Events

How do I edit or delete an event?

Tap any event card on the timeline to open it. From there you can edit the title, date, time, category, reminder, repeat rule, and notes. Tap Done to save or Cancel to discard. To delete, scroll to the bottom of the editor and tap Delete event.

Can I set an event to repeat?

Yes. In the event editor, tap Repeat and choose Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly, or Weekdays (Monday–Friday). When you edit or delete a repeating event, Cal. asks whether to change only that occurrence, that one and all following, or all occurrences — the same pattern as Apple Calendar.

What does "Mark as done" do?

Tapping Mark as done inside an event greys it out on the timeline — a visual signal that it's complete. It doesn't delete the event or move it anywhere. Tap again to unmark it. On past days with unfinished events, a "Mark all as done" button appears above the chat bar so you can clear a whole day at once.

Can I edit events from Google Calendar or Outlook inside Cal.?

Not in the current version. Events imported from external calendars (Google, Outlook, iCloud calendars other than Cal.'s own) are read-only in Cal. — you can see all their details by tapping them, but edits need to happen in the source app. Events you create directly in Cal. are fully editable and sync back to Apple Calendar automatically.

Notes

What is the Notes section?

Notes is a date-anchored journal built into Cal. Tap the notes icon (second icon in the top bar on the day view) to switch to it. Each note belongs to the day it was written. Navigate through dates using the same day strip as the calendar, and write freely — notes can be a few words or a few paragraphs. There's no limit. Notes are currently stored on-device. Cross-device sync for notes is coming in a future update.

Can I use voice to dictate a note?

Yes. In the Notes view, tap the microphone button at the bottom. The note editor opens immediately and starts recording. Your words appear as you speak. Tap Stop when you're done — the editor stays open with the transcript so you can edit the title and body before saving.

Categories

How does automatic category detection work?

When you add an event, Cal. scans the title for keywords associated with each category. "Gym" and "dentist" match Health; "standup" and "meeting" match Work; "dinner" and "coffee" match Personal. The category determines the colour dot on the event card and in the month view.

You can see and edit the keywords for each category in Settings → Categories → tap a category. Adding your own keywords means Cal. gets smarter about what you care about.

Can I create my own categories?

Yes, with Cal. Pro. Tap + Add category in Settings → Categories. Give it a name, pick a colour, and add the keywords that should trigger it. Custom categories are unlimited for Pro subscribers.

Cal. Pro

What's included in Cal. Pro?

Cal. Pro unlocks: voice input (chat bar and Notes), custom categories (unlimited), additional themes, and future Pro features as they're added. The core calendar — adding events by typing, calendar sync, repeat rules, reminders, the Notes journal, and all five default categories — is free forever.

How do I subscribe to Cal. Pro?

Go to Settings and tap the Cal. Pro banner at the bottom. Pricing and subscription options are shown there. Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID and can be cancelled at any time from iPhone Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
