Tap the + button on the Library screen. You can search by title or author, scan the ISBN barcode, or add a book manually. Once found, choose a shelf and you're done.

Shelves let you organise your library. Reading is for books you're currently reading, Finished for completed ones, Want to read for your to-read list, and Did not finish for books you abandoned.

Open a book, go to the Info tab, and tap the page or chapter count to update your progress. You can also tap the progress bar label directly. Plume. logs your daily reading and uses it to calculate streaks and stats.

Tap the shelf badge (e.g. Reading) on the book detail page to change status directly. Tap the Started or Finished rows in the Info tab to update dates. Tap the Pages or Chapters value to edit the total.

For manga without a known chapter count, you can toggle Ongoing series in the Info tab. This prevents Plume. from automatically marking the manga as finished when you reach the current chapter total. You can also find this toggle in edit mode for any manga.

If a book is missing its cover, synopsis, pages, or other details, a Refresh metadata button appears in the Info tab. Tapping it fetches the latest information from Google Books and fills in any missing fields. The cover is always updated to match. You can refresh once every 24 hours per book.

At the bottom of a book's Info tab, Plume. shows other books by the same author — a quiet way to discover what else they've written without leaving the app. Tap any cover to see details and add it to your library. This section only appears for books, not manga. Results come from Google Books, a free provider with broad but imperfect coverage — accuracy and availability vary by author, and some lesser-known authors may return no results or unrelated titles. This is a known limitation of free metadata sources.

Yes. Tap the filter icon on the Library screen and go to the Display tab. You can switch between grid and list view, choose how many covers appear per row (2–5), toggle the visibility of title, author, rating, and reading progress on each cover, and set your default shelf.

Tap the filter icon on the Library screen. The Sort tab lets you order by recently added, title, author, rating, or date finished. The Filter tab lets you narrow by type, genre, rating, year read, or custom tags.

Tap the filter icon on the Library screen, go to the Display tab, and select your preferred default shelf at the top. Your choice is saved and applied every time you open the app.

Tags let you organise books with custom labels — for example #japan, #nonfiction, or #rereads. Open a book, go to the Info tab, and tap the Tags row to add or remove tags. You can search for tags from the main Library search bar, and filter by tag in the Filter tab.

Tap the stars on the book detail page to set a rating. Plume. supports half-star ratings — tap once for a full star, tap again on the same star to set a half star. For example, tapping the third star gives you 3 stars; tapping it again gives you 2.5 stars.

Yes. Tap the filter icon on the Library screen and go to the Filter tab. Tap one or more star values to show only books with those ratings.

Open a book and go to the Highlights tab. Tap + Add highlight in the footer to type one manually, scan a page with your camera using OCR, or import from your e-reader.

In the Highlights tab, tap + Add highlight then choose Scan page. Point your camera at the text, and Plume. will extract it automatically using on-device OCR. You can edit the result before saving.

Yes. Open any highlight to edit it. There's a Your note section below the quote where you can write your thoughts. Tap Done to save.

Yes. Tap the search icon in the Highlights tab footer to search within a book's highlights by quote text or note content. To search across your entire library, use the search bar on the main Library screen.

Once you have 20 or more highlights for a book, a sparkle icon appears in the Highlights tab footer. Tap it to jump to a random highlight — a way to rediscover something you saved.

Connect your Kindle to your Mac or PC via USB. Open it in Finder or File Explorer and look for the documents folder. Inside you'll find a file called My Clippings.txt. Copy it to your iPhone — via AirDrop, email, or Files — then open Plume., go to Profile → Import highlights, choose Kindle, and select the file.

First, enable the export feature on your Kobo. Connect it to your Mac or PC via USB. On Mac, show hidden files with Cmd + Shift + . (period). Find the file at .kobo/Kobo/Kobo eReader.conf and open it in a text editor. Before the [General] section at the top, add two lines: [FeatureSettings] on one line and ExportHighlights=true on the next. Save, eject, and restart your Kobo. A new Export highlights option will appear when you press and hold on a book. Export each book individually — files are saved in the Exported Annotations folder at the root of your Kobo. Send the .txt files to your iPhone and import in Plume. via Profile → Import highlights → Kobo.

Plume. will detect the match and ask what to do. Merge adds the new highlights to the existing book. Replace overwrites the existing highlights. Add as new creates a separate entry.

The Notes tab lets you write freeform thoughts about a book — things that don't belong on a specific quote. Think of it as a reading journal per book. Tap + Add note in the footer to create an entry. Notes are timestamped and saved automatically.

A highlight note is a reaction tied to a specific quote. A book note is a standalone thought not linked to any passage — for broader reflections, questions, or ideas the book sparked.

Yes. Tap the search icon in the Notes tab footer to search within a book's notes.

Reflections surface a past highlight from your library — a quiet moment to revisit something you found worth saving. When a reflection is ready, a subtle pill appears at the bottom of your Library. Tap it to read.

You can choose the frequency in Profile → Settings → Reflection frequency. Options are Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly, and Monthly. Reflections appear when you open the app after the interval has passed. Changing the frequency resets the timer so a new one can surface on your next app open.

Plume. favours older highlights you haven't seen recently, so Reflections feel like rediscovery rather than repetition. The same highlight won't appear twice within six months.

Yes. Go to Profile → Settings and toggle Reflections off.

Stats are based on your reading log — updated each time you record page progress on a book. Books read, pages read, and streaks all come from this log, so keeping your progress updated gives you more accurate stats.

A streak counts consecutive days where you met your daily page goal. Your current streak and best streak are shown on the Stats page.

On the Stats page, tap Edit next to Today's goal. You can set your target number of pages per day once for free. Changing it later requires Plume. Pro.

On the Stats page, go to the Year tab and tap Set goal. Enter how many books you want to read this year. The goal pill tracks your progress. Setting a yearly goal is free once — changing it later requires Plume. Pro.

The Stats page has three tabs. Month shows your reading activity for the current month — daily goal, reading calendar, genre breakdown, and top reading days. Year shows your full-year progress with a 12-month calendar grid and yearly goal tracking. All time shows your complete reading history, year-by-year breakdown, milestones, and reading session stats.

Milestones appear in the All time tab and highlight your personal records — your longest book, fastest read, the book with the most highlights, and your best reading year.

For manga, chapters are counted as pages in the reading log since Plume. uses a unified progress system. This means manga chapter counts contribute to your pages read total, which may appear lower than expected for heavy manga readers. This is a known limitation.

The book timer lets you track how long you spend reading in each session. Start it from the Info tab on any book you're currently reading. The timer runs in the background and shows a floating pill at the bottom of the app while active.

Open a book on your Reading shelf, go to the Info tab, and tap Start session. The timer starts immediately and a floating pill appears at the bottom of the screen.

Yes. Tap the pause button on the floating pill, or tap Pause & Open App from the Live Activity on your lock screen. The timer freezes until you resume.

Tap the stop button on the pill, confirm you want to stop, then enter your current page in the sheet that appears. Tap Save session to log it. Your book progress updates automatically.

When a session is active, Plume. shows a Live Activity on your lock screen and in the Dynamic Island. It displays the book title, elapsed time, and buttons to pause or stop the session. Tapping Stop & Open App brings you back to Plume. to save or discard the session.

Open any book and scroll to the Reading sessions section in the Info tab. It shows your three most recent sessions with date, duration, and pages read. Tap See all to view your full session history for that book.

Tap the stop button on the pill, then tap Cancel session in the confirmation. This discards the session without saving anything.

When enabled, Plume. syncs your library, highlights, notes, reads, reading log, and reading sessions to your private iCloud container. Your data is only visible to you — Plume. never has access to it. Sync happens automatically when you open the app.

Go to Profile → Settings and toggle iCloud sync on. Make sure you're signed into iCloud on your device. The first sync may take a moment depending on library size.

Yes. Everything stays on your device or in your private iCloud container. Plume. has no backend servers and no access to your data. No tracking, no ads, no third-party sharing.

Go to Profile → App data → Export backup. Plume. creates a JSON file containing your entire library, highlights, and reading history. Save it somewhere safe — Files, iCloud Drive, or email it to yourself.

Go to Profile → App data → Import backup and select your backup file. Plume. will restore all your books, highlights, and reading history.

Profile → App data → Delete all data permanently removes everything from your device and returns you to onboarding. This cannot be undone. If you have a backup or iCloud sync enabled, you can restore afterwards.
